Damon Runyon Theater

Damon Runyon Theater was a drama series broadcast from January to December 1949. The series dramatized 52 of Runyon's short stories. Runyon, born in 1880 in Kansas, became a newspaper man and a writer . He was best known for his short stories celebrating the world of Broadway in New York City that emerged from the Prohibition era.

Runyon's stories express an interest to real human lives. He wrote humorous tales of gamblers, hustlers, actors, and gangsters. Runyon's stories are written in a vernacular style, often mixed with a formal speech and slang.
